The End of Slide (2024)

滑梯尽头

The evolution of slides serves as a microcosm of China's urbanization era, as seen through the eyes of a child.

In the early 2000s, slides were rare, only found in city parks. With China's surge in infrastructure development, numerous colorful plastic slides began appearing in residential areas and parks. Nowadays, slides can be found in almost every city block, becoming common urban landscapes. Despite becoming more colorful and diverse, these slides now attract fewer children to play on them.

The photography book "The End of Slide" represents a confluence of my nostalgia and the broader societal transformations. In documenting this collective memory, I utilized an objective typological approach, capturing the ends of these slides and recording their locations. The end of the slide serves as a symbol, signifying the back of my childhood and the close of a distinct era in China's urbanization.
